Walking and Cycling

It is a joy to walk or cycle straight from your holiday accommodation on the many footpaths, bridleways, lanes and trails covering natural Mid Wales.  Many of the holiday properties and bed & breakfast businesses on this site are on or very close to trails and paths so you can usually get  to wonderful walks and cycle rides without having to use the car.  With beautiful landscapes to experience and diverse wildlife to see, there are walks and cycle routes to suit everyone - those who like a challenge and those who want a gentle stroll or ride.

For those who love walking or cycling Mid Wales has a great variety of countryside to choose from. Tranquil walks on quiet lanes and tracks, long and challenging treks in the upland moors and exploration of the many nature reserves will give everyone a chance to discover natural mid Wales. Mid Wales My Way website has excellent maps and descriptions for lots of walks in this area and 6 long distance walking routes.  Guided walks are offered here too, in particular by the Elan Valley rangers and various walking groups whose free walking programmes are available on the internet.

Cycling in Mid Wales is a wonderful experience. The roads tend to be much quieter than in many tourist destinations and you can easily access great areas for birdwatching. For cycling enthusiasts, Sustrans is committed to extending opportunities for cycling and the Sustrans network of cycle routes through Mid Wales can be seen on their site.  Routes 8, 81 and 825 are long distance routes which include fantastic local sections passing through wonderful countryside.  Off road cycling is well catered for too with many routes for all levels of experience. Road and mountain bikes are available to hire and guided mountain bike expeditions can be booked on a sessional basis.
